Genio Use Instructions

Genio® System Patient Instructions

To use the Genio® System for obstructive sleep apnea, follow this daily routine for applying the wearable activation chip and managing your therapy.

Daily Routine

  • Before Bed:
    • Skin Prep: Shave the area under your chin within 17 hours of application for the best patch adhesion.
    • Assemble: Connect the Activation Chip to a new Disposable Patch.
    • Apply: Place the patch under your chin, ensuring it is positioned over the implanted stimulator.
    • Start Therapy: Use the Genio Patient App on your smartphone to control and start the stimulation.
  • While You Sleep:
    • The system delivers gentle pulses to the tongue nerves to keep your airway open.
    • If you wake up, you can pause the therapy via the app and restart it when ready to drift back to sleep.
  • When You Wake Up:
    • Remove: Detach the wearable from your chin and discard the used disposable patch.
    • Charge: Place the Activation Chip on the portable charging unit immediately so it is ready for the next night.

Safety & Maintenance

  • Identification: Always carry your Implant Identification Card to inform medical personnel or security about your implant.
  • MRI Compatibility: The Genio system is MR Conditional (safe for 1.5T and 3T scans under specific conditions). Always inform your radiologist.
  • Activity Restrictions: Consult your doctor before high-impact activities (e.g., boxing or using jackhammers) that could displace the implant.
  • Cleaning: Keep the Activation Chip in its protective cover. Do not clean the device yourself; contact your doctor if it becomes dirty.
  • Pre-Surgery Precautions: Avoid aspirin and NSAIDs for two weeks before and after the implantation procedure to prevent bleeding.
