Foundayo (orforglipron) Tablets for Weight Loss

Long-term Weight Management

Foundayo is a prescription medicine used for long-term weight management. Unlike many other medications in its class (GLP-1s), it is an oral daily pill rather than an injection.

1. What is Foundayo?

Foundayo is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It mimics a natural hormone in your body that regulates appetite, slows stomach emptying, and helps you feel full longer.

  • Indication: For adults with obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m²) or those who are overweight (BMI ≥ 27 kg/m²) with weight-related medical conditions.
  • Usage: Must be used in combination with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

2. Expected Weight Loss Results

Weight loss with Foundayo is gradual and most significant over the first 6 to 12 months. Results from the 72-week ATTAIN clinical studies showed:

Dose Level Avg. Weight Loss (%) Avg. Weight Loss (lbs)*
High Dose (36 mg) 12.4% ~27 lbs
Medium Dose (12 mg) 8.4% ~18 lbs
Low Dose (6 mg) 7.5% ~16 lbs
Placebo (Diet/Exercise only) 2.0% ~4 lbs

*Based on a starting weight of 220 lbs. Individual results will vary.
The 5% Rule: If you have not lost at least 5% of your starting body weight after 16 weeks on the maintenance dose, your doctor may re-evaluate your treatment.

3. How to Take Foundayo

  • Schedule: Take one tablet once daily. You may take it with or without food, at any time of day.
  • Administration: Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush, chew, or break it.
  • Dose Escalation: Your doctor will start you on a low dose (typically 0.8 mg) and increase it every 4 weeks to minimize side effects.
  • Missed Dose: Take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip it. Do not double your dose.

4. Common Side Effects

Most side effects are gastrointestinal and occur when first starting or increasing your dose:

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Stomach pain, bloating, or heartburn
  • Fatigue or headache
  • Temporary hair thinning (telogen effluvium)

5. Important Safety Information

Boxed Warning: Thyroid Tumors Animal studies showed a risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. It is unknown if Foundayo causes these in humans.

  • Do not use if you or your family have a history of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
  • Watch for symptoms: Neck lumps, hoarseness, or trouble swallowing.

Other Serious Risks:

  • Pancreatitis: Seek immediate care for severe abdominal pain that reaches your back.
  • Gallbladder Problems: Including gallstones or inflammation.
  • Hypoglycemia: If you take insulin or sulfonylureas, your risk of low blood sugar is higher.
  • Pregnancy: Foundayo is not for use during pregnancy. Stop taking the medication at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.

6. Benefits Beyond the Scale

Clinical trials showed that patients using Foundayo also experienced:

  • Reduced Waist Circumference: Meaning less visceral (belly) fat.
  • Heart Health: Improvements in blood pressure and lower triglycerides.
  • Blood Sugar Control: Significant reduction in A1C levels for patients with Type 2 diabetes.

7. Manufacturer Coupons

We want to ensure your prescribed treatment is as affordable as possible. Many pharmaceutical manufacturers offer Copay Savings Cards that can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs.

While our office assists in identifying potential savings, manufacturer discount programs are third-party entities. Pulmonary and Sleep Consultants does not administer these programs and cannot guarantee eligibility or the final cost of your medication. Programs are subject to change or cancellation by the manufacturer without notice.
